Le Carré des Lombes is a contemporary dance company marked by the unique universe of choreographer Danièle Desnoyers. For 30 years, it has continuously generated activities related to creation, production, dissemination, teaching, and audience development at the local, national, and international levels, reflecting a vision based on the interdisciplinary resonance between dance, music, and visual arts.
Le Carré des Lombes was founded in 1989. Since than, it has created a repertoire of more than twenty works. Its mission is completed through artistic and educational mentoring. The educational component focuses on two aspects in particular: audience development and the transmission of the repertoire of le Carré des Lombes. The company is a member of Circuit-Est, choreographic center, with which it shares material and organizational resources. The company contributes to the long-term viability of this facility for professional dance artists.
Danièle Desnoyers is the artistic director of the company. Born in Montreal, she studied classical and modern dance, as well as music, from an early age. In the mid 1980s, at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in dance, she made a pivotal encounter with Jean-Pierre Perreault (1947-2002), with whom she collaborated as a dancer for several years (Joe, Stella, Piazza, Les Éphémères, etc.).
