“We are facing a key moment right now in the evolution of culture and artistic production in North America and elsewhere. Some people are describing a decline, seeing art that responds too much to demands versus art that is free, that questions, that is critical. [i]

In dance and performance, creating a live performance can have different objectives. Expressing the artistic approach of an experimental choreographer can be as much a driving force behind a production as entertaining the public with commercial dance, for example. The important thing is to recognize the differences and encourage discourse in order to help audiences situate themselves. There is potential for more meaningful experiences if we are better able to name what we see when watching a show and have more access to the intentions behind each production.

Art Circulation takes its members’ various artistic approaches to heart, and continues to pursue the delicate task of creating encounters between their works and audiences, encounters that nourish and promote experimentation and discovery.  We see artistic creation as an act of resistance, an act that is complex and terribly human.”
